The Navarathri celebrations at Hartley College commenced on 22nd September 2025 and ended on 2nd October 2025 with the grand observance of Vani Vizha.
The day’s events were held under the presidentship of our Principal, Mr. V. Uthayamohan. The programme began with a solemn pooja ceremony, seeking the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi, the embodiment of wisdom and learning.
A special address was delivered by Mr. V. Sivatheepan, who emphasized the importance of knowledge, culture, and tradition in shaping young minds. His inspiring words deeply resonated with the audience.
The highlight of the event was the distribution of prizes to the winners of various Navarathri competitions, held throughout the festive period. This not only recognized the students’ achievements but also encouraged them to actively participate in cultural and spiritual activities.
As part of the celebration, a variety of cultural programmes were staged by the students, showcasing their talents in music, dance, and drama, which filled the atmosphere with festivity and joy.
World children's day-01.10.2025
The word children's day was celebrated today with the theme of Nurture with love_ To lead the world. First the event was conducted at the auditorium and our principal Mr.V.Uthayamohan delivered his children 's day speech. After Mr.K.Thavanesan, teacher of Hartley College delivered his Children's day speech. After that, the quiz Competition between three selected groups were organized and conducted by our vice principal Mr.V.Suthershan and students participated enthusiastically.
After that the events continued at the playground. CricketT20, slow cycling, hitting pots and many other traditional games were conducted and students participated and won prizes.
Aerowings Club Launched at Hartley College
Hartley College marked a significant milestone on 23rd September 2025 at 10 a.m. with the official launch of its Aerowings Club, aimed at inspiring students in the field of aeronautics and aviation.
The event was organized under the presidentship of our Principal Mr.V.Uthayamohan and the guidance of the teachers-in-charge, Mr. T. Pirathap and Mr.K.Muhunthan. The ceremony was graced by the special guest, Mr. U. Denistan ,Director, Aerowings Aeronautics, who shared his insights on the growing opportunities in aerospace technology.
During the event, office-bearers of the new club were formally elected. Mas.K. Aswin was elected as President, Mas.B. Akshayan as Secretary, and S. Pavithran as Treasurer.
The launch of the Aerowings Club is expected to provide students with valuable exposure to aeronautical sciences, innovation, and career pathways in aviation.
Clean srilanka-20.08.2025
Under the theme of clean srilanka , President Secretariat organized and conducted an awareness programme on "first aid" at Hartley College for selected 100 students on 20th August at our College auditorium. Representatives from President secretariat, Northern Provincial Ministry of Education and many others participated into this programme.
Clean school_ creating clean steps_ safe space.-09.07.25
Clean SriLanka programme was initiated by the government. The mission of the Clean Sri Lanka project is to reposition the nationwide efforts of environmental, social, and governance initiatives through introducing change, integration, and collaboration. Under this programme , The "Clean School" initiative is being implemented in all schools throughout the Island to create an attractive school environment and to minimize the spread of dengue on 9th July . This programme was conducted in our school as well. The programme was started with hoisting the Natinal flag and School flag. The event was continued at the college auditorium. First our principal Mr.V.Uthayamohan delivered his introductory speech about the clean school programme and its objectives. After that student Mas. Antony Remian delivered an awareness speech about environmental pollution. After that our Assistant principal Mr.V.Suthersan delivered an excellent presentation about this clean sri lanka project and clearly gave the core idea of this project. An awareness drama, directed by our Tamil teacher Mrs.S.Ramanathevi, was staged by the students. The vote of thanks was delivered by our Deputy principal Mr.K.Vanimuhunthan.
After that students cleaned their classroom surroundings with the support of their class teachers.

An awareness programme was conducted by the Point Pedro Police in our school to educate students about the dangers of drug usage and the importance of adhering to traffic rules. Officers shared valuable insights on making responsible choices and the legal consequences of breaking traffic laws. The programme aims to empower students to be safe and , fostering a safer community for all.

A Cleaning campaign was organized by SDC , Under the theme of Clean SriLanka , to clean the school premises was conducted today from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. With the full contribution of the parents the school surrounding was cleaned.
Felicitation ceremony - 20.05.2025
The felicitation ceremony of Mas.Kanthathasan Thasarath , who secured the 2nd rank in island level and 1st rank in district level in Physical science stream- G.C.E A/L 2024(held in 2025) , was held on 20th May at the college auditorium. The event was presided by our Principal Mr.V.Uthayamohan. Mas.K.Thasarath along with his parents were welcomed by the school society. Principal Mr.V.Uthayamohan, Mr.Mathivannan, class teacher and Physics teacher of Mas.K.Thasarath, and Mr.Raveedndran, President _ HCPPA Parent body delivered their felicitation speeches. Manager and staff from People's Bank presented to this event and felicitated him with cash prize worth one lakh. The acknowledgement was delivered by Mas.K.Thasarath.
Workshop on "Handling Smart boards effectively" for tye teachers - 07.03.2025
A workshop for the teachers on "Handling Smart boards effectively " was organized by Mr.Murali, past pupil of the school and the founder of "Aiyam Iddu un" and conducted today (07.03.2025). A team of students from University of Moratuwa came as the resource persons and actively conducted the workshop.
Welcoming ceremony of grade 6 05.03.2025
Newly enrolled Grade 6 students were welcomed by the school society. First the orientation session was started at the auditorium with the presidentship of our Principal Mr.V.Uthayamohan. Deputy principal, Assistant principals, sectional head, class teachers of grade 6 , students and parents presented at the auditorium and the session was started at 8 a.m . Many instructions and ethics were informed to the students and parents. After that the students were welcomed by grade 7 students. An English evaluation was conducted.

Battle of the Colleges 01.03.2025
Former principal of J/Hartley College and J/Nelliady CC Late.Ratnasabapathy memorial soccer match, named as" Battle of the Colleges" , held today (01.03.2025) at NCC ground. As usual , it was held in two sessions. One is morning session and the other one is evening session. In the morning session, friendly match between the staff of both Colleges and next match between the past pupils of the Colleges. Both were won by NCC.
In the evening session, The first kick off started for under 14 . Hartley college did not any goals while NCC got 3 goals and NCC won the match. Next the Late.Ratnasabapathy Memorial Kick -off for the under 20 team was started. As both teams got one goal each and , the match was moved towards the penalty shoot out. Hartley college kicked 5 goals and NCC got 3 goals and Hartley College again secured the Ratnasabapathy Memorial Trophy this year too.

The Annual Inter House Athletic Meet of Hartley College was held on 15th February under the presidentship of Mr.K.Vanimuhuntham, Deputy Principal of the College. Mr.T.Kalaichelvan , former principal of the College was invited as the Chief guest for this event. The event was started at 1.30 p.m . The guests were welcomed with band. As usual field events and track events were held simultaneously. Interval programme was a feast for the audience. The winners were awarded by the spouse of the chief fuest Mrs.Jeyanthy Kalaichelvan, Teacher of Yarkkaru Vinayagar Vidyalayam. Thamotheram house secured the first place and Sherred house secured the second place. The event was adjourned with the college anthem.

Battle of The Ends, Manimaran_ Wijesriwardana Challange trophy _6th encounter between Hartley College and Rahula College Matara, was held on 26th January at College green under the presidenshiip of Mr.K.Vanimuhunthan, Deputy principal of the college. Kabadi Tournament, conducted by The All Island Schools Kabadi Association, our kabadi, under 18 team secured the second place at the National Level, held in Kegalle.
Retirement and bidding farewell to our Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan -2024.12.13
Our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan got his retirement on 13th December 2024 after his dedicated service of 31 years to this school in various roles. He entered into this college as a teacher in 1994 and served as teacher, subject coordinator,Sectional head, Deputy principal and principal in this school. He became the principal of Hartley College on 1st April 2021. Our College has conducted a farewell to honour his sincere service on 22nd November 2024. His commitment, passion, and leadership shaped many lives and left a lasting mark on our school community. As we bid him farewell, we want to express our gratitude for his hard work and dedication to excellence. While his presence will be greatly missed, his legacy will live on to inspire us all. We wish him all the best as he continues to fill his life with joy, happiness, and new adventures. Thank you very much sir, for everything you have done for us.

The prize giving and the college day of Hartley college were held on 9th November 2024 at the college auditorium. Prof.Sivakolundu Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, was invited as the chief guest for this occasion. The Chief Guest, along with other guests, were welcomed with the inniyam . The college day was presided by Mr. Raveendran , President HCPPA and the college day messages were delivered by the chief guest and the principal, Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. Then the prize giving was started under the presidenshiip of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. The principal 's report was delivered by the principal. After that, the Chief Guest delivered his speech. The prizes for the winners were distributed by the spouse of our Chief Guest, Mrs.Sivarani Srisatkunarajah, senior lecturer , University of Jaffna. The vote of thanks was delivered by the deputy principal, Mr.K.Vanimuhunthan. Many cultural anaesthetic programmes were staged by our students. The event was adjourned with the school anthem.

The Achievers ' Day of Hartley college was held on 9th November at the college auditorium. Mr.M.Thiruneelakandan, Chairman cum Treasurer, HCPPA _Trust, was invited as the chief guest for this event. The guests were welcomed with band. The national flag and the school flags were hoisted by the Chief guest and the principal respectively. The event was started at the auditorium. Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan delivered his president 's speech. The students who achieved in conclusion curricular activities were awarded on this occasion. The awards were distributed by the spouse of our chief guest, Mrs.Shanthini Thiruneelakandan, Rtd Director Consumer Affairs Authority . In between the cultural programme also were staged by our students. Coaches of the games and other coaches of different fields were felicitated on this day. Chief Guest delivered his speech and mentioned the role and the contribution of the HCPPA Trust to the college. Vote of thanks was delivered by our assistant principal Mr.V.Suthershan. Teachers' day 2024
Annual Teachers' day of Hartley College was held on 8th October. The event was presided by Mas.A.Vishwakanthan.
Eng.Eswararaja was invited as the chief guest for this event. Teachers were welcomed with inniyam and celebration was continued at the auditorium. Principal gave his Teachers' day message to all. Teachers were felicitated by the chief guest. The felicitation of the teachers was financially supported by MR.Nallathambi Uthayakumar, one of the parents, The events were continued at the basketball court and teachers engaged in many traditional games .
Workshop for the athletes
A workshop for the students who engage in sports and games was held in our college auditorium. Dr.Enoch Newton Joseph, Physiotherapist, sports medicine was presented as the resource person to this workshop and trained the students.
The world children's day-2024.10.01
The world children's day was celebrated today (01.10.2024) at our college. This year, the theme for International Children's Day is "Investing in our future meansinvesting in our children."
The event was conducted in two stages. In the stage 1, the event was started at 8 a.m at the auditorium . Principal gave his children's day message and the wishes to the students. Mas.S.Arudkumaram delivered a special speech about the duties and responsibilities of children. Teacher Mr.K.Suthesh delivered the special children's day speech. A quiz competition was organized and conducted under the presidentship of our assistant principal Mr.V.Suthershan. After that the stage 2 was held in the College ground. Games like blasting the balloons, fancy dress parade, hitting pots, climbing up the rope ,ball throwing and many other games were played by the students and the winners were awarded. All students have participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the day.
Book release of Knowledge world Education - 2024.09.03
Knowledge World Education, book written by Prof.M.Nadarajasundaram, was released on 3rd September at the college auditorium. The event was presided by our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. Mr.N.Theivendrarajah , Former principal of Hartley College and incumbent commissioner-National Police Commission, and Mr.Nanthakumar, Former ZEO Vadamaradchy were invited as the guest speakers and Mr.V.Nanthakumar, Lecturer, Teachers' training College-Kopay was invited as the reviewer of this book. Neighbouring schools principals, college staff, and students also presented to this occasion. The book was officially released by the author Prof.N.Nadarajasundaram and our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan received the first copy of the book. Staff and others got their copies. The acknowledgement note was delivered by the Author Prof.M.Nadarajasundaram.
Everyone mentioned that this book talks about the current changes and challenges in the field of education. And also mentioned about the need of updation in every field especially in education.

Annual Hostel day of Hartley College was held on 1st September 2024 at the college auditorium. The event was presided by Mas.P.Nirokshan. Mr.R.Thanarooban, Accountant_ ZEO Vadamaradchy was invited as the chief guest for this event. Hostel students, teachers-in-charge of the hostel, school staff and wardens presented to this event. The event was started at 6 p.m with lighting the traditional oil lamp. Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan delivered his speech and mentioned about the history of the hostel and also mentioned about the valuable support off Ian Karan and Velummayilum Foundation. The students who achieved in G.C.E (A/l) and the hostel students who won the competitions were felicitated. The teachers who teach and guide the hostel students were felicitated. Many aesthetic performance were staged by our students. The event was adjourned with the vote of thanks delivered by Mas.N.Mathushan.
Promoting prefer helpers as junior prefects.(18.06.2024)
The event of Promoting the prefect helpers as Junior prefects was held on 18th June 2014 at the college auditorium under the presidenship of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. After one year of their probationary period, the helpers were promoted and pinned with batches by our principal. Mr.V.Suthersan , Assistant principal of the college, has coordinated the event.
Foot path opening - 2024.05.03
A foot path was put up from the basketball court to the entrance of Dr.Samuel Science laboratory by the students of G.C.E(A/l) 2015, in memory of their colleague, Late. Sundaramoorthy Sathyan. The opening ceremony was conducted under the leadership of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan.The foot path was declared open by Mr.Sundaramoorthy, retired teacher of Hartley College, on 3rd May 2024.

A beach clean up programme to clean the coastal area of Point Pedro was held on 3rd April. Grade 10 students have participated and cleaned up the area. All students were given with eco friendly bags for their usage by HCPPA.

Badminton equipment were donated by the members of HCPPA Mr.Selvendran, Mr.Vasikaran and Mr.Kogulan for the students. The event was held on 2nd April and Mr.Murali, President-HCPPA, officially handed over the equipment to the principal

Health club of our school has organized and conducted Zero waste day on 28th March with the support of Urban Council-PPD. Grade 9 students have participated in this event and cleaned the school premises.
Farewell of Mr.A.Suresh-2024.03.19
Mr.A.Suresh, school labor of our college, got his retirement on 18th March 2024 after his long dedicated service of in our school. A farewell function was arranged by the school society. The function was held at the college auditorium under the presidenship of our school Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. Mr.A.Suresh was honoured by staff and students.
The grand opening ceremony of Dr.V.K.Samuel Laboratory.-2024.03.12
The grand opening ceremony of Dr.V.K.Samuel Laboratory, built by Hon.Ian Karan, in the memory of his brother ,was held on 12th March from 12.00 noon onwards. Mr.Ian Karan , Former Hamburg state minister of Economic affairs and Employment and old boy of the college and his spouse Mrs.Babara Karan came from Germany to open this laboratory. He has donated 23 million for the laboratory and 7million for the additional work for this laboratory. It is a three storey building and each floor is dedicated to Chemistry,Physics and Biology respectively. Under the presidentship of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelavan, The guests were invited with the band and Mr.Ian Karan officially declared open the laboratory. After that the event was continued at the college auditorium with the welcome dance. The president of this event , our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelavan delivered his speech and mentioned about his marvelous service to our college. Mr.M.Neelakandan, Chairman cum treasurer of Hartley College trust, delivered a speech. A presentation was done by the students for acknowledging and honouring his services to Hartley College. Finally our chief guest was honoured with a memento by the school society. He has given his special speech and recalled his memories of his school days and shared the pride of his brother late Dr.V.K.Samuel. The welcoming event for newly joined grade 6 (2024) students to the school was held today (06.03.24) .It typically involves a variety of activities and initiatives aimed at helping them feel comfortable and integrated into the school community. The event was started at the auditorium. Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelavn, assistant principals , sectional heads and grade 6 students and their parented presented to this event. Principal gave the speech about our school and its tradition. New students are provided with information about the school's facilities resources rules and expectations. Also mentioned about the academic programs clubs and other extracurricular activities.
After that the grade 6 students were welcomed by the grade 7 students and they reached to their new class rooms with parents. New school bags were issued for the students with the financial assistance of G.C.E(0/l) 1990 batch and a students' record book to record their achievements during their school period, donated by G.C.E(A/L) 2000 in memory of their colleagues who died in an excursion.
"New students started their first day at school with the blessings of their parents, Principal and class teachers. An evaluation exam in English was held and the marks were given to them on the same day.
New students are typically given a tour of the school campus to familiarize themselves with the various facilities classrooms libraries and other important locations.

It was held in two sessions such as morning session and evening session. In the morning session, friendly match between the staff of both colleges and next match between the past pupils of the Colleges. Both were won by NCC.
In the evening session the Chief guest Mr.S.K.Raveendran (UK), along with our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, Mr.G.Krishnakumar, principal of NCC and other guests were invited with the band and the session was officially inaugurated by the chief guest. First under 14 teams played and NCC won the battle. These three matches are friendly matches. Under 20 soccer match, the Ratnasabapathy trophy match, was played and Hartley College won the match and Hartley College became the Late.Ratnasabapathy memorial trophy, champion for this year.
Past pupils, welwishers and many others came to this event and encouraged their students. The incumbent principals of both schools Mr.T.Kalaichelvan (principal-J/Hartley College) and Mr.G.Krishnakumar (principal-NCC) were honoured by the past pupils of Hartley College.

Dr. Mithrakumar (Cardiologist) and his spouse Dr.Meera Mithrakumar (consultant-eye surgeon) were invited as the chief guest for this event. Fomer provincial director Mr.Uthayakumar, Vice Chancellor Prof. Srisatkunaraja, Guests from different zones, neighbouring schools principals, past pupils, former principals, staff and parents came to this event. Guests were welcomed with inniyam and band. Events were started with the lighting of the olympic torch and band. Many field and track events were held. Interval program was excellently done by the students of grade 9. Thamotheram secured the first place and Sherred secured the second place. The prizes were distributed by Dr.Meera Mithrakumar. The event was adjourned with the school anthem.

The first colours night of Hartley College was held under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, on 23rd Dec 2023 from 5p.m onwards. The event was sponsored by HCPPA-Trust and Velummayilum Foundation. Dr.K.Pirapaharan, Dean faculty of engineering-university of Jaffna and his spouse Mrs.P.Balaranjani , Charted Chemist were invited as the chief guest for this event. Oli vizha of Hartlely College has organized and conducted under the patronage of Mas.Jude Piriyatharshan, President of Christianity association, on 1st December at the college auditorium from 10.30 a.m. Rev.A.F.Benat, Parish priest and Rev.Richard SothiSoruban , pastor -Methodist Church Point Pedro were invited as the special guests for this occasion. Principal gave his blessings through his wordings on his speech. Songs, Carol, dance performance and many other aesthetic programmes were staged by the students. The winners of oli vizha competition were awarded. The event was adjourned with the presence of Santa Claus.

Commerce day of Hartlely College was celebrated on 28th Nov at the college auditorium. Under the patronage of Mas. J.Shiyam, president of commerce union, the event was conducted. Mr T.Kalaichelvan , Principal of the college participated as the Chief guest for this event. Mr.Krishnajothy, Teacher in charge of Commerce union , has delivered the president's speech. Mrs.S.Pasupathirajah, former teacher, Hartlely College, was invited as the guest speaker for this event. The event was started with lightning the traditional oil lamp. The speech of blessing was delivered by Mrs.M.Kiyomar, Teacher-in-charge , Christianity association. After that, the welcome address was delivered by the president of Hindu association. Principal has delivered his speech of blessing. Then deputy principal and Vice Principal have delivered their speeches. Special speech was delivered by the guest speaker Mrs.S.Pasupathirajah. The winners of the Navarathri festival competition were awarded. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mas.S.Shinojan, Secretary, Hindu Union.
After the interval ,the aesthetic programmes were started. Speech, group singing, musical programmes, solo dance and orchestra were performed by our students. The celebration was adjourned at 12.15 p.m
185th Anniversary of Hartlely College-Oct 7th and 8th
To mark the 185th Anniversary of Hartlely College, a series of events were organized and conducted on both 7th and 8th October by HCPPA-parent boady.. On the first day, the event was started with a walk with the participation of Principal, staff and Past pupils of the college with the motto of collecting polythene and plastic along the way of walking. The walk was started at 7.30 a.m from the college entrance and moved through the College road, Thambasiddy road, Point Pedro-Jaffna road and finally reached at the college at 8.30 a.m. After that, the events were continued at the college ground. A tree planting programme was conducted and Principal, former principal, Past pupils, And well wishers planted the trees in the college ground. In the memory of Late Vethaparanam, former president-HCPPA, his family has sponsored to conduct friendly cricket matches among the past pupils and also with the staff. On the first day the cricket matches were held among the old boys.On the second day, friendly matches were played among staff, and teams of past pupils.In the evening,The events were adjourned with the awarding ceremony and a dinner at Sooriyamahal hall. It is one of the remarkable events in the history of Hartlely College.
The world Teachers'Day-2023.10.06
The world Teachers'Day was celebrated at our college on 6th Oçtober at the auditorium under the patronage of the senior Prefect Mas.M.Arjun. Mr.S.Thiruvaharan, Secretary - Provincial Public Adminstration and Ministry of Health -NP, was invited as the Chief guest for this event. Under the guidance of the principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, A/l students have arranged the whole event in a proper way. Mr.Nithilavarnan, Secretary SDEC, Mr.Murali, President-HCPPA ànd welwishers also presented to this occasion.
Teachers were felicitated by the chief guest. The gifts for the teachers were sponsored by Dr.R. Thanigaivasan, past pupil of the College.
Some traditional games like pot hitting, slow cycle racing, ball passing were arranged and played by the teachers. It was a very well arranged programme by the students

Joyful Children's Day Celebration at Hartlely College
World Children's day 2023 was celebrated on 3rd Oçtober . The theme of this year's children's day is " Children above all". Manifested an exuberant Children's Day celebration spreading joy and delight among the young students.
Stage 1, The event was started at the auditorium with the children's day message from our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. Then, one of the prefects of the college Mas.Krishnamenan delivered a speech about children's rights and duties. Special speech was delivered by our Teacher Mr.Kajanthan about Children's day. Then a quiz competition was conducted for a group of students.
The stage 2 , programmes were conducted at the college green. Traditional games like hitting pots, slow race, kiting , ball passing and some other games were arranged and played by the students. A Hartlely College named key tag was presented to all the students as a memory of children's day celebration.
The Children's Day celebration at Hartlely College was truly a resounding success. It not only provided a day of enjoyment and merriment but also emphasized the value of education creativity teamwork and social responsibility. The event served as a reminder that every child deserves to be cherished nurtured and supported in their journey towards a bright and promising future.
Release of Miscellany-(2020-2022)-2023.09.27
The release of Miscellany of Hartlely College, covering the period from 2020 to 2022, was held under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, on 27th September at the college auditorium. The fund for the miscellany was sponsored by HCPPA . Prof. B. Nimalathasan, senior lecturer, Department of Commerce, University of Jaffna, was invited as the chief guest for this event.
On his president's speech, Principal mentioned about the tradition of launching miscellany and also thanked the committee members especially to Mr.V.Suthersan , vice principal of Hartlely College for his immense contribution for releasing the miscellany.
Mr.V.Suthersan delivered the note of book analysis. The miscellany was officially launched by the chief guest and the Principal officially received the miscellany. The guests and staff received the miscellany from the chief guest. After the chief guest Prof.Nimalathasan has delivered his speech. On his speech, he has mentioned about the importance of digital learning, digitalfasting and recalled his memories of his school days. After that, the national level achievers the kabadi , under 20 team was felicitated by the chief guest and the event was adjourned with the vote of thanks by Mr.K.Vanimuhunthan, Deputy Principal of the college
Exhibition-2023.09.25,26,27
A grand level educational exhibition to mark the 185th anniversary of the college , was held under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, from 25th to 27th September from 8a.m to 4 p.m. The fund for the event was sponsored by Past pupils of 1972 to 1978 batch. Dr.E.Y.A.Charles , Senior lecturer, Department of Computer science, University of Jaffna was invited as the chief guest. The exhibition was officially inaugurated by the
chief guest on 25th September. With the guidance of Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelavn, and the efficient support of the teachers, all exhibits were prepared by the students, and exhibited subject wise. English, Saivam, Christianity, Tamil,Sinhala, Maths, Science, ICT, Music, Art, Health science, Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, combined Maths, Civics , Geography, History, Commerce and scouts are the main sections in this exhibition. A hanging bridge, built by Combined maths unit, water fountain and boat , built by art unit,Devil house, built by commerce unit, Ellalan fort , built by history unit were the main attractive spots in the boundary of the college. The photographic society has covered the events in both online and offline. The spectators also took photographs through the photographic society.
On the first two days,
Neighbouring schools from vadamaradchy Zone visited and learnt new ideas by seeing this exhibition. From 1.30 p.m to 4 p.m , the public were allowed to see the exhibition. On the last day, schools from the other zones visited and gathered knowledge from the exhibition.
Phtography Workshop-2023.09.03
Under the guidance of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, photographic society teachers in charge Me.T.Subaharan and Mr.V.Rajendran , has organized a training programme for the members of photographic society. It was held today (03.09.23) at our college. Under the presidency of Mrs.Poongulaly Srisangeerthanan(Head, Department of Media Studies,University of Jaffna) , a group of undergraduate students Bewla Parameswaran, M.Sujeevan, S.Sinthu, G.Ilankeeran,P.Dilakshan and Roshani have been invited as the resource persons for this training and did a great training for our members.
G.C.E(A/l) 2002 global Hartleyites has donated an "Inniyam" -26.08.2023
On the request made by the Principal Mr.T.Kalaicelvan, G.C.E(A/l) 2002 global Hartleyites has donated an "Inniyam" for our students on 26th August. Also the teachers who taught the A/l 2002 were felicitated by 2002 A/l students.
"Crysbro Next Champ" programme
Mas.S. Mithunraj has been selected into the "Crysbro Next Champ" programme, a scholarship to prepare talented athletes for international competitions based on past national level achievements.
It is noteworthy that he is the only Tamil student among the 13 selected players.
Training for the members of photographic society 2023.08.14
An initial training for the members of the photographic society was held in our school on 14th August and Mr.Nagaratnam Kugan , Kugan studio Point Pedro was presented as the resource person and gave a valuable training for our students.

A special presentation on"healthy food habits" was conducted by Siddha Ayurvedic hospital Point Pedro on 4th August at the college auditorium. Siddha Dr. Aingaran was presented and gave valuable information about healthy food habits.

Dr.Eng.Sivakumar , President HCPPA UK , was invited as the guest speaker for the Tuesday assembly on 25th July and shared about his school days and experience to our students. Also he has handed over a camera , worth 2.5 lakhs, sponsored by HCPPA- UK ,to the photographic society.
Vanimuhunthan Moshikeeran from grade 7 and Abishan from grade 6 secured the first place at Chithambara Olympiad and won chance to visit UK for their awarding ceremony.

Canteen building opening
The canteen building, sponsored by HCPPA-UK, was started to function and the upper portion of the building is allocated for practicing fine arts and indoor games.
Health care check-up for the staff - 2023.05.24
A health care camp for the staff to check the non communical diseases was organized and conducted by Base hospital Point Pedro on 24th May, and the staff were checked and advised for their healthy lifestyle.
Awarding function for the students who participated and scored the cut off point, in the Reading project, conducted by Mr.Sundaramoorthy,(Former ADE English and former teacher of Hartlely College) , sponsored by HCPPA-UK branch, held on 2nd May 2023 at the college auditorium. Principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan gave away the certificates to the readers.
Annual Inter House Athletic Meet-04.03.2023
Sports is the celebration of human spirit. It not only inspires the young minds but also teaches good values. After a hiatus of two years due to the lingering fear of Covid 19 pandemic, the college has conducted one of its signature events.
Annual Inter House athletic meet of Hartlely College was held on 4th March 2023 under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan. Mr.N.Theivendrarajah ( Former Principal of Hartlely College., Provincial Director, National Police Commission-Northern Province) graced this occasion as the chief guest. Past pupils, parents, SDEC members, well-wishers and many people also presented .
To facilitate everyone in this world to see this event, first time in the history, the event was telecasted through the YouTube live streaming, with the sponsorship of HCPPA-UK branch.
2023 meet champion is Thamotharam house. Mrs.Pama Theivendrarajah (Retd Teacher-Uduppiddy Girls' college) gave away the prizes for the winners.
Teachers' Day 2022
The international Teachers' day is annually celebrated on 5th of October with a particular theme.
"The transformation of education begins with teachers" is the theme of this year.
This year the International Teachers'Day was celebrated today (06.10.2022) at our college auditorium. The event was presided by Junior prefect Mas.Anutharshan and our former sectional head Mr.Sivaganeshan was invited as the Chief guest for this event. Principal, President-HCPPA Mr.Murali, SDEC secretary Mr.Nithilavarnan also participated in this event. Teachers were honoured with garlands and headed to the auditorium with band. Many programmes such as solo acting, poem, speeches were done by our teachers.Teachers were honoured by our guest, with the gifts, sponsored by HCPPA.
The stage programmes were ended and the function was continued at the basketball court. Many traditional games such as slow cycling, tug of war, pot breaking , water glass passing were arranged for the teachers and they happily participated on every events. The event was adjourned at 1.30 p.m.
Vani vizha 2022
Navratri is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights and is celebrated every year in the autumn. On the 10 th day, Vijayathasami is celebrated. It is observed to get the blessings of Lord shakthi.
This year, the Navarathri Pooja was celebrated from 26 th of September 2022 to 4th of September 2022 . Every day special Pooja was conducted by the allocated classes with the support of Hindu Association. Under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, the Vijayathasami/ Vani vizha of Hartlely College was held today (5th October) at the college auditorium. The event was started with our special Vijayathasami Pooja . Our former sectional head , Mr.Balagengatharan was invited as the guest speaker for this event. Many aesthetic programmes , especially Bajans, songs, dance and speeches were staged by our students and they showed their wonderful talents with the support of our teachers. Navarathri competitions were conducted by the Hindu Association and the prizes for the winners were issued today by our Principal and the sectional heads. . The festival was adjourned at 1.15 p.m .
Children's Day 2022
International Children's day is annually celebrated on October 1st . This year the children's day was celebrated on 4th of October 2022 at our college auditorium. Our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan presided the event.
"A better future for every child " is the theme for this year. Based on this theme , our sectional head Mr.Kathiramalai has delivered a special speech for our children. After that traditional games were arranged for the children and they actively participated . Pen and chocolate were issued for every children and sweet meal was given to our children as their lunch. Children enjoyed the whole day actively.
Smart classrooms opening ceremony - 17.06.2022
Hartley College is proudly announcing the opening of its smart classrooms on 17 th of June 2022. Three classrooms were upgraded as the smart ones with the financial support of the students from GCE (A/L)1999.
Under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, the event was started at 9 a.m. Mr.Sathiyabalan (ZDE Vadamaradchy) was invited as the Chief guest. The three smart classrooms were ceremoniously declared open by the chief guest.
The rest of the events were held at the auditorium. The event was graced by the representatives of G.C.E(A/L) 1999 batch , Mr.Sureshkumar (DDE & representative of A/L 1999, )former sectional head Mr.Thavarajah, principal MGHS Mrs.S.Balarani Transferred teachers, past pupils , SDEC members, college staff and students. After the prayers,Principal has delivered his president's speech. Mr.Sureshkumar,the chief guest Mr.Sathiyabalan (ZDE Vadamaradchy) and Mr.Thavarajah (former sectional head) also delivered their speeches. Everyone requested the staff to make the top usage of smart boards. Vote of thanks was delivered by our deputy principal Mr.K.Vanimuhunthan. The event was adjourned with the college anthem at 10.30 a.m .
Student Parliament Election - 2022
To provide an opportunity for students to be involved in practical experience on democracy and its responsibility, the student parliament election is conducted in schools.
The student parliament election 2022 was held on 15 th of June (today). Under the guidance of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, Teachers in charge Mr.Thileepan, Mr.N.Thushyanthan, Mr.Thayananth and Mr.Sriskanthasekaram have functioned as the election committee.
To reduce the usage of papers, save time and keep the accuracy, this time with the support of our ICT teachers Mr.T.Subaharan ,Mr.P.Kajananan and Mr.M.Nitharshan, we have introduced the digital polling system to our school. Students have enthusiastically casted their votes. It is one of the remarkable introduction of our upcoming generations. Principal has appreciated everyone who supported to make this event a success.
Welcoming the new grade 6 (2022)-18.05.2022
Hartley College has wholeheartedly welcomed its new grade 6 students with the blessings of the God. The inauguration function was held under the patronage of our principal Mr.T.Kalaichelvan, on 18th of May 2022 at the college auditorium with the presence of the students,parents and limited staff. The inauguration was started at 8 a.m with the address by the principal. Later the new hartleyites were welcomed with flowers, which symbolise the purity, by the grade 7 students. The faces of the freshers lit with the joy and excitement as they begin their new chapter at Hartley college. An evaluation exam in English was conducted for the new students to evaluate their competency level in English.

Pongal festival is celebrated as a thanksgiving occasion to the nature. Mas.V.Shanujan , participated in the “King of the Ring” Boxing Championship, held in Sweden and secured the second place in international level. To felicitate his achievement, an honouring rally was arranged from 1st mile post junction to school entrance. Divisional Secretariat, Depot-Point Pedro, Banks, Urban Council- Point Pedro, School and many business centres honoured him along the way of the rally. Commemoration and Blood Donation Programme, to commemorate the students who co- died during the educational excursion in 1999 was held on 28th of November 2019.G.C.E (A/l) 2000 batch students and the doctors from Manthikai Base Hospital co- joined and conducted this event well. This event was presided by the Principal of the college . Mr.Raj Siva gave the clear explanation for the questions raised by the students in different areas including quantum physics, astro physics, Scientific business& Social Science.

Jesus Christ was born as a light to eradicate the darkness of people’s mind. The oli vizha was celebrated at our college auditorium. Rev.Javil (Pastor – Methodist Mission) and Rev.Alakarajah had delivered their Christmas messages to everyone at our College. Speech, Musical drama and many other religious praogrammes were staged by our boys. The celebration came to end with the arrival of Santa.

Mas.S.Mithunraj won the first place and received the gold medal in the event- put shot by throwing 15.95m at the National Level Athletic meet for school students. Also he has broken the the record which was made by Mas.Bandara (15.67m) in 2018 in the same event.
20.10.2019 Educational Exhibition
A grand level Educational exhibition was organized and conducted from 20th of October to 21st of October 2019. Mr.Y.Raveendran (ZDE- Vadamaradchy) and Mr.K.ASivanarulrajah (Assistant Director of Education for Science – Northern Province) were invited as the Chief guest and the exhibition was inaugurated by them on 20th of October 2019. Not only Our College students, but also neighbouring school students, parents and public came to see the exhibition and received the full benefits from it.
Skeleton dance, Sail boat, hanging bridge, technological inventions, ICT, orchestra , Kolu, word games, Kolu, Calvarari, ghost house, Srilankan map, Pond system, Modern town, dinosaurs, mathematical techniques, and many other valuable exhibits were exhibited by the students with the full support of teachers. Hard work and dedication of the Students and the teachers made this event a marvelous success.

Annual Prize giving & College Day were held at our College Auditorium.College Day was organized under the patronage of HCPPA Parent Body President and the Prize Giving was held under the patronage of our Collegepprincipal Mr.T.Muhunthan. Grade 6E & Grade 6A classrooms were upgraded as SMART classrooms to improve the learning pattern of the students to face the future world effectively. At 10.30 a.m , Grade 6E classroom was declared open by Mr.Sivagnanasothy (Secretary- Ministry of National Integration & Reconcilliation). At 12.30 a.m , Grade 6A SMART classroom was ceremonially declared open by Mr.V.Thayanantharajah, VelumMylum Foundation.

The Hindus around the globe observe the Navarathri Festival to pay reverence to the deity of knowledge. The last day of the Navarathri, our College celebrated “vani vizha’ festival at our College auditorium. Former Sectional Head Mr.A.Mahendrarajah attended as the guest speaker of this event and addressed to the students. Principal & Deputy Principal also delivered their special speeches to the students. Many aesthetical programmes were staged by our boys.

The annual Teachers’ Day was organized and conducted by the students of HC. Former teacher & Librarian Mr.P.Raguvaran attended as the chief-guest for this event. Representatives of HCPPA, SDC members & Parents also participated in this event. Cultural events were held at the auditorium. In the afternoon,traditional games such as breaking the clay pots (traditional game of Tamils), slow cycling, tug of war and ball passing were played among teachers at our college green.

Maths teacher & Sectional head Mr.A.Mahendrarajah got his retirement from his untiring service of 18 years at Hartley College. The farewell function was held on this day to honour his service rended to the school society.
The General Assembly of Tuesdays for the second term was abandoned due to unstable conditions that prevailed in the country. The first Assembly for the second term was held on 09-07-2019 at the auditorium. The Principal presided at the assembly, special speeches were delivered by a teacher and a student and the prizes and certificates were issued to the students who had excelled in the Provincial Level Athletic Meet.
Provincial Level Tamil Day Competitions
In the Provincial Level Tamil Day Competitions held at J/ Vembady Girls’ College on 06-07-2019, our students won the 01st place in Group Singing - Group II and Mast. P. Saranithan won the 01st place in singing and describing the song (Pavothal) - Group II. Further, Mast. M. Aagash got the 03rd place in individual singing - Group IV.
Seminar on Eradication of Drugs
To mark the Eradication of Drugs Week, an awareness programme was held at our College auditorium. It was jointly conducted by the Divisional Secretariat - Point Pedro, Police - Point Pedro and Public Health inspector (PHI) - Point Pedro. In addition to this, a video clip related to road safety was shown and explained for the students.
The Provincial Level Athletic Meet
The twelfth athletic meet among the schools in the Northern Province was held at Thuraiyappa Stadium from 04-07-2019 to 08-07-2019. In this breathtaking event, our College grabbed 05 GOLD Medals, 04 SILVER Medals and 07 BRONZE Medals. Further, we got 02 - 04th places, 01 - 05th place and 02 - 06th places.

Information Communication Technology Competitions
Provincial Level - 29, 30.06.2019
The final competition of Yarl Geek Challenge Season 8 - Junior was conducted by Yarl IT Hub with the collaboration of the Provincial Department of Education. In this final competition, in the section of IOT Hardware Application Development, Our ‘Hartley Smart’ team (Grade 12 - Mast. T. Rajinthan, Mast. S. Sanjajan and Mast. U. Jananan) designed an application named ‘Smart Home’ to monitor and control our homes through mobile phones. And this system secured the first place in the Provincial Level.

Zonal Level - 21, 24, 25, 26.06.2019
In the Zonal level finals of the above competition, the students representing our school from Grade 06 to 13 participated in 16 sections. Out of 16 teams, 08 teams were able to secure the 1st place, 02 teams got the second place and 04 more teams were able to get the 3rd place.

Morning Keep Fit programme was restarted
The morning Keep Fit programme for students was temporarily stopped due to unavoidable situations of the country. This programme was restarted on 01st July 2019. The students were very excited to engage in the activity.

In the Provincial Level Table Tennis tournament held on 29th June 2019 at Jaffna Central College, our school under 20 table tennis team was able to get the fourth place.

The foundation for a new building next to the library was laid on the 18th of January 2018. Commemoration Day 17.11.2017
The commemoration of the Hartleyites who co-died under tragic circumstances during an educational excursion during the year 1999, was held on the 17th of November 2017 at the college Auditorium. Scholarships were awarded to the students from Hartley College and the neighbouring schools. A blood donation was organized to mark the event.

We are with very much pleasure in informing you about the Record and performances made our students in the National Level 48th Sir John Tarbat Junior Championship 2017 held in the Diyakama Rajapaksha Stadium on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of November 2017. The stage 1 selection was held among the North, North Central and North western provinces on the 16th and 17th of June 2017 at Royal College Grounds, Polonnaruwa and 3 of our students were selected.

The annual ‘Ozhi Vizha’ festival was celebrated in the school auditorium on the 8th November 2017. Superintendent, Ministry Point Pedro, Kaddiveli Circuit Rev.D.Alagarajah and Parish Priest, Manatkadu Rev.S.Duek vinson had given the Christmas messages. All the students participated in this festival. Many colourful programmes were staged by the students. The Principal, guests and others gave speeches. The function ended up with the arrival of santo.

‘Vani Vizha festival was celebrated by the College on 11th October 2017. The religious observances were followed by the cultural programmes performed by the students. Principal of Puttalai Maha Vidyalayam Mr.S.Sivanathan attended the function as a Guest speaker. Speeches which won the first place in the competition, Villupattu “Seetha Kalyanam”, Drama, ‘Oththikai’ and a Musical Programme were some of them. A prize giving was also held to appreciate the students who performed well in the ‘Navarathri Vizha’ competitions.

Ian Kiru Karan, an old boy and the sponsor of the College Hostel, visited school along with his wife Mrs.Babara Karan and his son in the evening at about 2.00pm. He was welcomed by the Principal and the school community. A meeting was arranged with the staff and the Principal and the Guest made short memorable speeches. The meeting came to an end with a party.

Teachers’ Day - 2017 was celebrated traditionally by the students of our College and it was sponsored by Mr.M.Thiruneelakandan. Mr.S.Thangarajah, former Chemistry teacher was the Chief Guest of this function. A speech was delivered by him on the service of teachers. Principal, all the students, teachers, former teachers and sectional heads and well-wishers participated in it. In the afternoon, traditional sports events such as the slow cycling, tug of war, breaking of the Muddi ( A tamil cultural event) and a ball passing event were held among the teachers. The function was ended with the lunch.

Global Hartleyites Day functions had been started from 03rd september evening with friendly cricket match between Hartley students and Past Pupils. The following day, Volley ball matchess and soccer conducted.
On the 5th september 2017,cultural programmes were conducted at the college Auditorium in the present of the Past Pupils and college community.It was started by 1o clock in the evening and ended up by 10 Pm.Various cultural programmes such as Nathaswaram Fusion, Nattu Koothu, Nartiya Nadagam, debate, speaches, songs and so on. The past distinguished teachers and Hartleyites were honoured at this function.
On the 6th september A procession was started at the Arthiyadi Pillaiyar temple at 8.30 a.m with the prayers. All the Hartleyites,staff,Parents and well-wishers joined in the procession.At the end of procession on assembly was organized with hoisting flags in the college. Speaches were delivered at the assembley. Thereafter workshops were organized in various topics to the Advanced Level students. Snacks and lunches were provided at this function.

Today a special assembly was held at the school Auditorium to felicitate Mr.C.Tharmalingam former principal J/Puttalai M.V, who served during the period when Hartley was functioning in Puttalai M.V due to the internal war crisis. The special assembly was organized at the request of the former principal of Hartley College served during this period , Mr.P.Balasingam. National Integration and Reconciliation Programme at Hartley College
A programme on the theme of National Integration and Reconciliation was held in our school auditorium on 16th January 2017 from 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The distinguished guests; Hon. A.H.M. Fouzie (State Minister), Harsha de Silva (Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs), Sivagnanasothy (Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation), Additional Government Agent (Jaffna) and others participated in it. The guests, the school staff and all the students gave the declaration of the National Integration and Reconciliation.

The “Thai Pongal” festival of our school for this year was celebrated on 16th January 2017 by Grade 06 students. Grade 07 students were welcomed and ‘Pongal’ was given to all of them. Both grades happily participated in this cultural festival.

An ‘Eye Camp’ was held in the morning in school for school children by a team of doctors from France/ Germany. 100 students were checked and they were given necessary advice.
Retirement
Mr. N. Vijayakumar, who had been the Science teacher and the Sectional Head for Gr. 10 and 11 got his retirement after serving the school for 16 years.
Stone Foundation laying
Stone Foundation laying’ function was held in our school for classrooms and Principal’s quarters. The school community participated in it.
Students’ parliament
The inaugural meeting of students’ parliament was held in the auditorium at about 11.00 a.m. The Principal presided the meeting. Deputy Principal, teachers-in-charge and the selected students participated in this meeting. All the ministers and the members took oath in front of the Principal and others.
Navarathri Vizha
Navarathri Vizha’ festival was celebrated by the College on 11th October 2016. The religious observances were followed by the cultural programmes performed by the students and teachers - Drama, ‘Kavi Arangam’ Musical Programme were some of them. A prize giving was also held to appreciate the students who performed well in the ‘Navarathri Vizha’ competitions.
Teachers’ Day - 2016
Teachers’ Day - 2016 was celebrated by the students of our College and it was sponsored by Mr. Neelakandan. Mr.Balendra, former Maths teacher and sectional head was the Chief Guest of this function. A speech was delivered by him on the service of teachers. Principal, all the students, teachers, former teachers and sectional heads and well wishers participated in it. In the afternoon, a friendly cricket match was played between the teachers’ team and the prefects’ team.
Prefects Ordination Ceremony
Prefects Ordination Ceremony was held on 04th October 2016 in the College Auditorium. The Prefects were ordained by the Principal.
Retirement
Mr. J. Rajaratnam, who served as the assistant librarian for sixteen years (16) of our college library got his retirement on 20th September 2016.
College Day and Prize Giving Day
The functions of College Day and Prize Giving Day were held in the College on the 2nd July 2016. The College Day was organized under the patronage of the HCPPA Parent Body President Mr.N.Kanthathasan and the Prize Giving Day was held under the patronage of the Principal Mr.T.Muhunthan. The chief Guest of these functions was Mr.Y.Raveendran, Deputy Director of Education, Zonal Education Office, Vadamaradchy.

The Official Website of Hartley College "hartley.lk" has been launched ceremonially by the Principal Mr.T.Muhunthan on the 1st July 2016.
Anti Narcotic Day Awareness Programme.
The Anti Narcotic Day Awareness Programme has been organized at the college on the 30th May 2016. Mrs. Bamini Senthooran, Counseling Officer, Divisional Secretariat, Point Pedro has attended the seminar as a resource person. National Anti Narcotic Controlling Board Officer Mr. Edwin Roger also gave his address at the seminar. In this seminar Child Rights Development Officers, Child Protection Officers also participated. Point Pedro Divisional Secretariat and Point Pedro Police Station have organized this programme.
Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5 Junior Final
With the collaboration of Northern Provincial Education Department, The Yarl IT Hub conducted the Yarl Geek Challenge 5 - Junior - IT competition. Our College team named "Hartley Mobile" won the 1st place in the provincial level under the category of Mobile App Development. The product is Office Mode

Mas.Vimalrajan Sanjith won the 1st place in Provincial level Tamil Day competition in Individual song Division IV. A Group song has secured the 1st place DivisionaI and a group song has secured the 2nd place DivisionII in Provincial Level Tamil Day competitions. The first place of the events will be participated in the National Level Tamil Day competitions. Our college Music teacher Mr.A.Krishnananthan trained the students to achieve these performances.
